sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils
Run hplip-plugin
sudo aa-disable /usr/share/hplip/plugin.py
Run as normal user, not as root:
hplip-plugin
now the printer will get installed

This was still an issue as of today with Linux Mint 19. I installed the
plugin manually as Afshan suggested and it worked for me.

Appreciative solution!! But if you cannot locate the receiver, check the
original plugin packaging. Some HP Touch and All-in-Ones come with the
Plugin pre-installed in the computer. And if you encounter another issue

Just to confirm that after some manual attempts failed, I also heard
from some other users that the issue was being looked at.
So I tried starting the plugin process again from the "HP Device
Manager" and this time it worked as expected - the bug seems to have
been fixed...

I also had this problem, and the newtwork was NOT down, and my distribution is
supported (Ubuntu 17.10). I have an HP LaserJet P1102.
I had to download the plugin manually and select it from hp-setup.

It appears that the problem is fixed now. Today hp-setup successfully
downloaded and installed plugin. Since there were no updates to the
packages, I assume the issue was on HP servers.

Normally, the checksum error occurs when the network is down or interrupted
during the download of the plugin. We have verified that the plugin files on
the server are not corrupt. Please check your network connection and re-try
installing the plugins. If the issue still exists please

Step 1: Go to

Step 2: Download the plugin files (both 'run' and 'run.asc') for the hplip
version that you are using.

Yup, same here and I just bought a brand new HP Color Laser printer that
