144Hz/120Hz monitor but Wayland sessions seem to cap rendering at 60FPS

[Bug 1767693] Re: 18.04 GNOME displays at 60fps even if the monitor is set to 144hz

2018-05-11 Thread Jason Pleau
Seems related to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781296

There are hardcoded values at 60fps / 60hz / 16667. I rebuilt mutter and
clutter with values at 144fps / 144hz / 6944, so far it seems to have
helped but it's still not as smooth as other desktops.

[Bug 1767693] Re: 18.04 GNOME displays at 60fps even if the monitor is set to 144hz

2018-05-07 Thread Rachel
Can confirm this is an issue in ubuntu 18.04. Also affects Ubuntu Budgie
(reported it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntubudgie/+bug/1767264)
which uses the same window manager as gnome shell (mutter).
Animations/window dragging are locked to 60fps regardless of actual
monitor refresh rate while everything else (glxgears, etc.) works as
expected. This issue doesn't exist in gnome 3.28.1 in other Linux
distributions so is likely the result of some Ubuntu 18.04 specific
patches.
