Can you please also run this command:

and send us 'backlightdetails.txt'?

[Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

It appears this is a problem in the Nvidia driver only. But instead of
waiting for a fix for that, you might want to try forcing the integrated
GPU (Intel GPU) to be enabled (the Linux kernel can't see it right now).
Hopefully you can find an option for that in your system BIOS?...

[Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks!

It appears your laptop only has an Nvidia GPU. Although an Intel GPU
should be present, it's not detected. Most likely disabled in the BIOS.
That should be OK...

Also your Xorg log is reporting that the Nvidia driver has successfully
detected the internal display, which is 1920x1080 and is an LCD panel
manufactured by Chimei.

Your 'prewboot2.txt' seems to suggest maybe the remaining problem is
just that Ubuntu doesn't know how to properly control the display
backlight.

Please run this command:

  find /sys/class/backlight/ > backlights.txt

and send us the file 'backlights.txt'.

[Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug

2019-05-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. Please:

1. Reproduce the problem again (the new black screen problem).

2. Reboot and as soon as the purple screen appears, tap Escape. Look
through the menus and find recovery mode. Select it and boot recovery
mode.

3. In a terminal or VT (Ctrl+Alt+F4), run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and send us the file 'prevboot.txt'.

Please also subscribe to bug 1822026, which is tracking other issues
with Nvidia P1000 GPU support.

[Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug

2019-05-28 Thread Daniel Martinek
When I tryed it the backround is black instead of violet, ubuntu circle
in the logo is still elipse and sometimes the whole screen gets blacked
for more then minute, so it is apparently the same state as before, just
instead of the commandline there is completly black screen with
backlight on.
