I'm closing this as fixed, since the original reported issue - the nv
driver fails - sounds like it's resolved. If not, please reopen.
Regarding the other subsequent issues found, please report those as
separate bugs.

OK, nv driver seems to work on 64 bits - clicking on Test produced the
screen just as it should look.
I go a whole bunch of problems though:
* Trackpoint didn't work. If the driver is included on the live CD, that's a
bug. I had to make do without a usable mouse because the touchpad is disabled
