ippusbxd has known problems and it will get replaced by ipp-usb where these problems are solved. See the MIR for ipp-usb, bug 1891157. With this replacement driverless printing will work correctly and so most modern HP printers will work without HPLIP at all. -- You received this bug

It looks several others have been having problems with hplip in 20.04 Answer 690278 is similar. As I already noted Answer 690720 is also similar. I have attempted to purge all references to hplip and re-install the packages included in 20.04 (which install 3.20.3) but that does not seem to
