on newer Nautilus version - fix can not be easily back-ported to 3.36.x
version.

Thanks for confirming, I think we can close this bug then.
In Ubuntu 18.04 the desktop was handled by Nautilus, in 20.04 it is
handled by gnome-flashback, that's why not all functionality is present
or the same as before.

That's right, files I deleted with Shift+Delete were actually inside Trash.
I wasn't aware of this new behavior after upgrading from 18.04.

Hi! In Ubuntu 20.04 version of gnome-flashback, deleting desktop files
permanently is not implemented. This functionality is added only in
development branch (20.10). So there is no Shift+Delete shortcut, only
normal Delete for moving files to trash.
All files that you deleted from desktop should
** Package changed: ubuntu => gnome-flashback (Ubuntu)
