Up to plymouth 0.9.5git20210323-0ubuntu1 it lacked robust shutdown support. That was fixed in 0.9.5git20210406-0ubuntu1 but the new version also introduced bug 1942987. Sorry I didn't notice the request for info... Hirsute has released so it doesn't matter there... I can resurrect this if I confirm it's the case with impish. I zsync'd today's Xubuntu ISO (impish) and confirm the issue remains :( - dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt) It just sits there with Xubuntu & a spinning logo without text. I pressed SPACE bar, then started the Alt-F4/arrow to switch to terminal and the box just turned off.. so some key was taken like it was an enter. At no point did the screen change (before turning off; nothing became visible; position did not alter - both screens showing the same).. I was watching the display far more closely than keyboard so I can't be sure what keys I hit, but it was NOT enter with hands on left end of keyboard) I booted Xubuntu impish again... this time using only Alt+Arrow >From Xubuntu & twirly thing Alt+Left = cursor top left blinking Alt+Right to return to Xubuntu & twirly Alt+Right = message top "Please remove the installation medium, then reboot" I was unable to work out what keys caused it to shutdown last time... Sorry Dimitri/xnox. I didn't notice your reply before now, I was searching for this due to re-occurrence. No words appear on screen, except Xubuntu logo (I see as graphics/image) and a twirling thing below that that just keeps twirling... It'll sit like that for 2.5 hours (longest I've left it) I just did a QA-test install of today's daily again on - dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt) and this issue occurs again... It occurs only on boxes with lower-resolution 4:3 displays. This box has two dell displays (technically 2x 1280x1024) but for some reason one I believe is using only 1024x768 currently, and the daily (live media) always boots with this box in MIRROR mode so both screens always show the same thing (the mirror mode isn't unique to Ubuntu; Debian (non-free live) boots in mirror mode too). Does pressing any key on keyboard make the message render better? What are the exact words of the message seen? There are two wordings one for graphical splash and another for serial text. One is "and press enter" the other one is "and reboot" or some such. For 20210227 and 20210228 ISOs noticed the remove medium message is showing correctly. Later accidentally (embarrassingly) noticed that previously when I reported message not shown, it was not in fullscreen mode and the message was blocked from view. If we scroll down the message is at the botton. In Ubuntu MATE (probably in Ubuntu also) the remove media message is about an inch or two below logo and easily covered in the view. On today's test (20210226 ISO), I noticed the message is shown for live- session but not for install test case (reboot after install). I confirm no message shows for removing the iso medium. Tested on Xubuntu daily build 20210224 ISO. If we hit escape we see following error. another xubuntu hirsute QA-test on same box - dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt) no message, it was left >35 mins with xubuntu on each display & circling-loopy thing, but no message appeared. the xubuntu logo isn't centered on the displays (it is on one, but not the other), as they are being used at different resolutions (1280x1024 & 1024x???;) and I think the "Please remove the.." message is being drawn off-screen..
