I just edited the /etc/interfaces file and added auto eth0'. In my
opinion, there should be a checkbox that says automatically start this
interface at system boot. This is how it works on Mandriva. All this
checkbox should do is add or remove the auto flag for the interface.

network manager doesn't support static IPs yet. thus i think you are
referring to manual configuration done through network-config.

I can confirm that bad behaviour. The first time I changed to static IP, the
connection did immediately fail, but I managed to resolve reconfiguring it.
However, every time I reboot I have to reconfigure to dhcp and back to static
IP to get it working.
Using Hardy from alpha6 updated, arch i386
