UPDATE: I installed Gizmo 5 from the Medibuntu.org repo and the audio worked on the first shot. I noticed that the Gizmo audio config was setup a little different than the default I got using the deb from the Gizmo Project website. Here's what's working for me. (Does not require changes to the

The friendly folks at Gizmo Support walked me through disabling PulseAudio: System Preferences Sound; change all options from Auto-Detect to ALSA. This seems to help. I'm puzzled why PulseAudio is enabled by default if it can't handle multiple audio streams(?) -- sound only works in one

RythmBox isn't the only application that this is happening with. I was considering submitting another bug, but it seems that the problem that I'm having is the same underlying problem. I can play music through Amarok, and use firefox 3b5 fine, but somehow I think firefox grabs the sound device
