sorry but the issue is still not solved. But I am buying a new external
NL keyboard soon (partly due to this small problem of each time
resetting the settings again) so in a way that would solve the
problem. But just not the bug.
But please understand that the keyboard worked fine

I have standard 8.04 Gnome + K- and a Spanish USB keyboard which worked
fine until a couple of days, when the system could not find it, even
though the keyboard was present at USB port.
Fortunately I found an old PS2 keyboard, which worked, but only as US
