Hi, I tried booting from today's edgy live cd (daily build 13-Oct 06) on
my 20 iMac G5 RevC and I still have the original problems, i.e. black
screen and ventilator starting after about 1 minute. Can anyone confirm
this? Has there been any progress on fixing the issue? What can I do to
help?
Hi,
I confirm this. The xorg.conf use wrong freq. I provided a working
xorg.conf at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/iMacG5RevC . About the fan, Benjamin
Herrenschmidt will work on it later, any help is welcome, we need a
windfarm121 driver.

Don't confuse iMac G5 rev {A,B} and rev C. They have a lot of
difference.
The priors have Powermac 9,1, the third has Powermac12,1. Currently, rev

the same problems are there that go all of the way back to Breezy Badger

These problems are very specific to ubuntu, as a similar setup (linux kernel,

Oops, that should have read 2.6.18-rc5 kernel - only this kernel has
native sound support, although patches can be applied to earlier

Yes, I got the sound working too. I have a fully functioning Dapper -
sound and fans controlled (except for video that is a bit jerky) -
simply by compiling the 2.6.16-rc5 kernel with the g5_defconfig
configuration.
I've posted instructions about how to get a working Dapper here:
Let us know if you get the sound working in Dapper. While I will
definitely continue to contribute as much as I can to Edgy, I would much
rather be running a quick, stable OS (with sound).

Thanks Dylan,
Thanks -- my OSX partition is on # 5, but I'll keep that ready if I need
it.
Actually my main problem is that I haven't been able to set up yaboot
yet -- for dual-boot I have to choose manual partitioning, but there
doesn't seem to be an option to create an Apple_bootstrap
Anyway the real problem (maybe needing fixing) is that in manually
editing partitions there's no obvious way to create an Apple_bootstrap
partition.
Yes, I came across this too - it's listed as a bug the Ubuntu graphical
installer bug wiki. You can either use mac-fdisk to create a boot partition
