I seem to be having the same problem, confirmed in Jaunty. However...
I'm not on 64 bit, I'm on the PowerPC-build, so I suspect this is a
multi-arch bug (something in OpenJDK itself) rather than specifically a
64bit x86 issue.

Also, same empty certificates window, same javaws behavior, etc. My
experience all corresponds with Alfas' last report. I, too, am fully up-
to-date, and have ca-certificates-java installed.

I get the same behavior on my Ubuntu 9.10 machine with x86, Open JDK and
Sun Java installed.

The same bug persists with OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_0-b12, mixed
mode).
I have ca-certificates-java installed.
I also tried it on different machine (also 64 bit with KDE) the same result.
Is there any other information I could provide?
Thanks for reminding me about this bug. I moved
I have one idea that may be useful: when I start javaws without any
parameters it opens Certificates window. However it does not display
any certificates. I can be correct if it is not supposed to show root
certificates. Should it be empty?

It's clear from the report they are not reporting this against openjdk.
The version strings are those produced by sun-java6 not openjdk-6

I am using openJDK. Sun does not support 64 bit, there are no even executables
for javaws. So, clearly I am using openJDK. I mentioned sun JDK, only because
it is also installed on the system. Just in case if there can be any conflicts
for example while installing openJDK it does not install
