[Bug 269853] Re: Human List Login User List is now empty after Edubuntu add-on to Ubuntu

2009-10-14 Thread Jordan Mantha
For Edubuntu 9.10 this isn't an issue as we have removed all Edubuntu
theming for GDM. GDM has changed the way it does themes dramatically and
we didn't have time to make all the necessary artwork changes. We will
revisit this during the 10.04 cycle and make sure we have the login user
list.

Jordan,
I appreciate the update, that make sense to me. Spending time elsewhere on
Edubuntu seems like time better spent than making a unique gdm version for
it.

Thank you,

[Bug 269853] Re: Human List Login User List is now empty after Edubuntu add-on to Ubuntu

2009-07-05 Thread Daniel Gimpelevich
This is still a bug in Jaunty. The cause is apparently that the
/usr/share/edubuntu-artwork/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf file is now out of sync
with the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file in some of its defaults, and gdmsetup
appears to largely ignore the former. The fix, in such a case, would be
to update that file to match miscellaneous settings in the
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf file.

Daniel,
I appreciate your response on this matter. When I reported this issue as
a bug back in Sept 2008 someone changed it to invalid but I didn't really
agree that it was invalid since it caused problems for me. I was setting up
a computer to give to my friends kids so I ultimately just installed
standard Ubuntu and installed the edubuntu packages that I thought they
would like. This issue factored into my decision not to use full Edubuntu.

Thank you,

What apparently happened was that you were asked for more information
about the bug, and you misunderstood what you were asked, so your answer
gave off the impression that it wasn't really a problem after all. Since
I ran into the bug myself, I understood what you really meant, and I see
it as something that really needs to be fixed.

2008-10-09 Thread James Grabbs
Mr. Lowe:
I would agree with this assessment. I would maybe classify this issue as
unexpected behavior for an uninformed installer since there was nothing that
would have made me think that the face browser was not available with the
Edubuntu theme. A good feature could be to have the login screens that are
unavailable for Edubuntu to turn grey and not be selectable or something
like that if the Edubuntu theme is used.
I am happy with the plain login screen with the user names that I am now
using and as I said I customized it to give an Edubuntu feel. I really
appreciate your help on this matter.

Thank you very much,
James
