To add to the above: I opened the libiptc.a located in /home/rianav/development/iptables-1.4.10/libiptc/.libs/ and found only arch . I then renamed the libip4tc.a found in the same directory to libiptc.a ad ran make again. This time it completed without any errors and I installed with make
