according to the comments, this seems to be indeed to be a duplicate of
bug #323894, which has been fixed now.

to get super user privilege, simply type sudo before your command and
you will be prompted for administrator password. It basically is a way
to keep people from messing with your system.

I am entirely new to linux and am haveing the same problem but have no
clue how to do any of this stuff. I can get into the terminal but dont
know what to do when I get there. please help me i will post what i have
done. I am using a brand new hard drive with fresh install of Linux
