Thanks Vish, your workaround works for me. Just delete those two folders
then logout, no need for reboot

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-10-18 Thread mac_v
Though i'm not facing this bug anymore.
There are two or more issues here!
1. Pulseaudio is not able to upgrade properly.
-During the alpha cycle i noticed several issues were solved when i delete the
~/.pulse folder and the ~/.pulse-cookie file
-Options were not updated until i deleted those files , like i did not have the
option to increase the volume to 150% until i deleted those.

2. As Daniel T Chen mentioned on irc, VLC sets the default audio output
module to something other than Pulseaudio [iirc ALSA ...] . So the users
need to change the audio module setting to Pulseaudio. [if need be , try
deleting the ~/.config/vlc folder and now in a new session , set the
vlc audio module to pulseaudio] . If problem still exists there are
other issues in play.

If no one faces this problem , this bug can be closed as fix released.

Are users still seeing this issue with the current pulseaudio in karmic?

firefox itself doesn't play sound - was this conflict when playing sound
using a browser plugin? If so, what plugin was it?

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-09-02 Thread Oli
I ran into this issue and did mac_v's #6 workaround. After a small
battle trying to get pulseaudio to restart, I can play things from
multiple source at once.

It doesn't appear to have had any negative impact and as requested, I'm
attaching my .pulse directory as it was before I deleted it.

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-09-01 Thread Paulus Esterhazy
I had a similar situation. mplayer -ao oss worked, but -ao alsa or
pulse just left mplayer hanging there. I removed .pulse, killall'd
pulse and restarted the daemon. Then it worked again.

I saved the .pulse folder, attached.

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-08-25 Thread mac_v
Ok , i think i solved this bug , this maybe due to some bad config? i
dont know.

Delete the folder:
1: ~/.pulse
2: ~/.config/vlc [if vlc is installed]

Deleting these two folders and then re-logging into my user account
solved the audio problems I'v reported here.

But is this a fix for the bug or is this a workaround ?

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-08-24 Thread mac_v
I did some more testing on this and i still face thsi problem in my
profiles.

But , when i create a new user , I'm able to play sound in multiple apps and
there is no locking.
Everything works perfectly with a new profile!

So i guess something in the ~/.pulse is blocking the proper
functioning? or something else.

Anyone can confirm that things do work properly in a new user? and how
to fix this ?

[Bug 411962] Re: Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

2009-08-16 Thread mac_v
** Summary changed:

- Pulse audio queues audio!
+ Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the app PID

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

After the recent updates , Pulse audio queues the audio playback rather
  than playing them immediately.

- Eg: while watching a video , user gets an IM ping , the sound is played
- only after the video app is closed not even pausing the video plays the
- ping sound.
+ 1 Eg: while watching a video , user gets an IM ping , the sound is
+ played only after the video app is closed not even pausing the video
+ plays the ping sound.

This results in an inappropriately timed ping.

- This behavior is only after the recent updates and is a regression
+ 2 Another issue is while playing audio in Firefox , once the video/audio is
playback is over in firefox , the browser is not closed.
+ So pulse audio gets locked with Firefox and sound does not play in other
audio/video apps.
+
+ This behavior is only after the recent updates and is a regression.
+
+ Workaround:
+ $ pulseaudio -k
+ this command needs to be run several times, until pulse audio releases the
PID.
+
+ Do note , this might sometimes prevent you from playing audio/video in
firefox again,
+ -Keep running the command to get sound in firefox or
+ -close and re-open firefox or
+ -identify the video/audio in /tmp and play the file in an audio/video app.
