Note to everyone posting here, the '[cups-driverd] Bad driver information file "/usr/share/cups/drv/sample.drv"' does not prevent printers from working or CUPS from executing jobs. It only tells that CUPS is not able to generate PPD files from the /usr/share/cups/drv/sample.drv and this is only relevant for creating a new print queue and there also for a small selection of printers. All printers mentioned here do not depend on /usr/share/cups/drv/sample.drv. Please create an error_log in debugging mode as described in the "CUPS error_log" section on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Then you will see that the mentioned error does not occur during execution of your print job. I eventually solved this by switching the printer to a wired connection rather than wireless. Prints fine now. Switching back to wireless causes the same issue again. Wired and wireless printer connections both work in 32-bit Lucid. By wired connection I mean a wired connection to my router not to the computer itself. I am receiving the same error. As a result my HP P1005 is detected but will not print. Not even a single page. I get this error message for a Brother MFC-7820N and the printout looks very fuzzy and seems to have small white dots inside the black areas of each letter. Same issue in 64-bit Lucid (10.04) using HP Photosmart c7180. Printer simply sits there with job on the queue but never processes them. Printer reports that is is 'Idle'. After 10 minutes of inactivity I am forced to cancel the job. This is a very serious issue with my HP C4480 -- I've tried again and again to get my printer working, but I can't. After several minutes of wait time, about 1 centimeter of the document will print, and nothing else. Same here with my Kyocera Mita FS-1010. The printer used to work perfectly with Debian sid. Since I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 it doesn't work properly. It only likes to print the very first page.
