Update: I reverted to version 2.0beta of the betavine driver that worked under
Jaunty this morning due to massive connect problems with network manager as
well the betavine program.
Now it works but conflicted the whole Ubuntu One folder again.

This is definitely odd. The log file doesn't give any indication as to
what the problem is exactly. Since you're not using NetworkManager, it's
possible this is part of the problem, though we normally see log entries
