Sorry, to test this you will have to remove openoffice. OO will get
updated soon, but it will probably take some more days.

I'm attaching a patch for the wrapper-gtk24.sh script that has vmplayer
use libdbus-1.so.3 instead of libdbus-1.so.2. Is there any way to get
this into the vmware-player package for a temporary work-around so
people don't have to worry about linking over a package's libs?

Gary has identified the fundamental cause. If libdbus-1-2 is removed,
things will mostly work (the player will not use HAL for device
enumeration, but it won't crash either). By the time Edgy is finished,
libdbus-1-2 will be gone (right now it's just there for openoffice which
apparently hasn't
On Edgy, it gives this error: /usr/lib/vmware-player/bin/vmplayer:
/usr/lib/vmware-player/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version
information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2). After
trying the cp/ln/rm trick with libgcc and/or libpng it still doesn't
work. There are several
vmware-player-modules required by vmware-player is requires version 23,
but 25 is the latest, if anyone sees the vmmon and vmnet modules are
missing don't forget to install the vmware modules for 25 which are
available in the restricted rep.
