Confirmed with a fully updated lucid install.
It looks like the indicator-applet-session item on the panel consists of
2 items: 1 for chat accounts and 1 for the session.
When you set the panel orientation to left or right the the default panel size
of 24 pixels is not enough to display both
In reallity the power-button is displayed, but it's too far after the
edge of the screen to be displayed.
I think the code is hardcoded to put elements one after the other to the
right. This works on a horizontal panel, but not on a vertical one.
