Can the developers please fix this bug. How can a workaround still exist
without any comments from the developers on the status of the problem
currently. Right now i have had to shift my linux os due to this issue
as all i get is the ugliest plymount screen seen in the history of
kubuntu.
(Comes from bug #571567):
Same problem here:
I installed a vanila Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 and updated everything using
apt-get.
Then I installed KDE and up to this point, everything works normal.
Then I downloaded a couple of login screen themes and switched my default theme
with one of those.
The workaround does not work on all graphic cards, especially not on laptop. So
it isn't a workaround!!
How can we promote kubuntu when showing a bootscreen from the early '90?
The fix has help a little bit, but there is still lot of work to do!

The boot experience in lucid is epic fail. I have this problem with nvidia

Ok the correct procedure is
1.- Add to /etc/default/grub

2.- $ echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
3.- $ sudo update-grub sudo update-initramfs -u
In my PC,
I have done Daniele Bregoli and Marco procedures.
With Marco procedure I dont have any result.
With Daniele I have a black screen.
These procedures are not valid for me, but thanks.
I think that this bug is not fixed.

Marco's procedure is actually incomplete. You shoud also add set
gfxpayload=keep in /etc/grub.d/00_header under set
gfxmode=${GRUB_GFXMODE} and run update-grub. You may also have to
unblacklist vesafb and rebuild your initramfs.

Why the ubuntu version is ok (and very nice),
This bug is about the plymouth theme rendering with dithered colors on
the VGA fb driver. It's still not going to look as good with the binary
video drivers as it will on the free ones, because the binary video
drivers don't give us a suitable kernel framebuffer that we can write

Dear Mr Steve Langasek.
That you said on comment 76 is right (the ubuntu live session have open

And for these reason, most people use them, and also canonical include them
I fail understanding how having _X11_ use NVidia drivers can have a
damaging impact on an early bootsplash system capability to drive

Exactly, the open drivers provide a proper resoulution framebuffer to
the kernel that is used for the splash (using kernel mode setting I
think), as the proprietary nvidia drivers are unable to do so vga16fb is
used instead to provide the framebuffer, but that gives a 640x480 16

to fix resolution and plymouth when pc boot, try this:
add this line to /etc/default/grub
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768
end run these commands:
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
sudo update-grub
sudo update-initramfs -u

To fix the problem try this:
With StartUp-Manager set the resolution to 1024x768 and color to 24bit

I used this workaround and work for me.
