Hi,
same problem on Dell Latitude E6520 with dualpoint touchpad (i.e.
stick_touchpad).

installed 11.04 - recognised as ImPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint. Tried Dell-
distributed 10.10 (available for download from Dell, com if you go to
support and search for E6520 and choose ubuntu10.10 as the OS) - the
same results.

Do you know - is it possible to fix it?

My kernel: 2.6.38-8-generic

Same problem for me. I have Dell Latitude E6520 and also would like to

It is possible to disable both (i.e. by some script, even while typing),
but it would be nice to still have the stick!

First post:
I confirm that I also have this issue on my Dell e6410 running Ubuntu 10.10
with standard kernels.

This patch (applied to Ubuntu-2.6.35-23.40 kernel, at least):
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/118834/
allows vertical scrolling with touchpad, in addition to touch-click. The
problem is that the movement/button-pressing becomes quite erratic after waking
up from sleep. Upon rebooting, the touchpad will once again move, scroll and
press correctly, until it goes to sleep.

I haven't looked into a remedy yet, but thought I would report.

I also have this bug: my touchpad detected as PS/2 mouse so no touchpad
prefereences in the mouse or pointer device preferences.

Interesting: discussing the issue in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9873143#post9873143
we found that:

kernel v..21 does NOT have this bug (i.e. when I boot to ver ..21
touchpad tab appears in the mouse preferences), see details in the
above link on ubuntu forum.

Something happens in kernel 24 that it does not recognise the touchpad

have you tried to change any setting?

Because here is no difference in touchpad behaviour before and after the
patch. Tapping worked before and only the tabs in Mouse are shown now
(but it takes no effect to change settings there) and gsynaptics starts
now (again, no effects when changing settings...)

btw.:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=6d327cb03fbc64cac36571c9bc8a1576d2b3ea00

[...] the magic knock does not work for this model of the touchpad and the
device stays in PS/2 compatibility mode.

I think we just have to wait for a fix from the alps driver guys...

Hi BBates,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
