OK, so I narrowed this down to my settings for ACPI USB power in the bios.. I had it set for wake on keyboard/mouse/usb (all are usb). These settings all worked fine with 2.6.32 and 33.. My entire USB susbsystem was dieing when this happened. The USB disconnect was in fact causing the ir_core

I have tried to run the command several times, I answer the questions, and a dialog with a progress maker that shows something is happening, top shows 1% CPU utilization (probably just the dialog box progress marker) and it stays like this for hours. I have attached a picture of the apport log
