Tried recompiling kernel again; still no sound output whatsoever. This
is really getting weird.
The only way I can reliably get any sound output at all is to unmute the
mic and turn the volume up until I get a feedback whistle. After
everything else fails, I do that to convince myself it isn't
Curiouser and curiouser. The problem, once it manifests, persists
through multiple reboots. But on a hunch, I powered completely down and
then started up, and sound started working again.
So... this is a Lenovo T60 laptop. Maybe there is a problem with
software-suspend that only gets cured on
