What is your graphical card model? What did you get exactly? Hi Didier, My card is a Nvidia GeForce Go7400 and yes, the system is falling back to the classic session. I followed your link while the Nvidia current was loaded, edited the /etc/environment file and rebooted. Unity ran, but just froze, so I changed the /etc/environment file back, removed the Nvidia current driver, rebooted and enabled the 3D Experimental (nouveau) and edited /etc/environment file again: sudo vi /etc/environment added: UNITY_FORCE_START=1 esc:wq reboot Unity now running fine, between these steps I ran the unity test tool /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p and found that the nvidia nouveau drivers were blacklisted. The nouveau driver worked on my system right up until the updates I installed on the 16/04/11, am I right in thinking that the nouveau driver was added to the unity blacklist file around this time? What is the location of the unity blacklist file? Hi all, Didn't have chance to try the suggestion from Omer before the official Ubuntu 11.04 release, downloaded and installed 11.04 today, Nvidia 173 driver was installed by default, Unity 3D didn't run, reverted to recommended Nvidia driver, Unity 3D didn't run, removed that also and installed the 3D experimental driver. Unity 3D still won't run! the binary drivers haven't worked on my system through the alphas and betas, but the 3D experimental driver has always worked, this driver seems to have benn broken in the updates I downloaded on the 16/04/11 and I seem to remember that I hadn’t updated in for 3 days before that. It's such a shame that Unity 3D worked on my system through the Alpha Beta testing stages and was broken just before release, please help. You could try latest ISO from here http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily- live/20110423/ as there won't be any updates available for the moment. Ok, so this time I reinstalled and downloaded updates during the install, unity was running fine, but then I checked for updates, lot's were found, even though updates were installed during install! I then installed the updates and unity no longer runs. Checked for updated drivers and it reported that I was version 173 was activated, but not currently in use. Tried and tested every possible combination of installs I can think of now, 3D experimental driver reports activated and currently in use, but no longer works after ubuntu updates. Both of the binary drivers report activated, but not currently in use. Can someone please tell me exactly what the standard driver installed is that doesn't seem to work with my card (is it nouveay) and the name for the 3D experimental driver, because that worked fine until today's updates, now it doesn't and unity no longer runs as a result of today's updates! Andy, the experimental driver as in name is experimental and is not supported by us. It works for some and not for others also it works sometimes and fails the other(I have seen that case too). Hi Omer, The binary drivers don't seem to work on my system, the only way I can get unity is if I use the experimental 3D driver, unfortunately today after the updates this no longer seems to work. I have now reinstalled 3 times, if I install without installing updates and use the experimental driver, unity works fine. I'm guessing the binary driver just doesn't work with my Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 and the experimental driver has now been updated and no longer works, or the updates no longer work with the experimental driver.
