i did things more odd to get some systems running. I will try to get an
nvidia card and then reinstall ubuntu / mythtv from start. Hope to
report results on wednesday.

whenever i use mythtvfrontend or mythtv-setup (both as user mythtv) i
can use the application for a short time (30 to 90 seconds) then it

Hi. Two things.
First, do you have an ATI graphics card and use the proprietary drivers?
Second, can you remove mythphone and see if the machine is more stable?
I've been encountering several issues with mythphone stability.

ATI yes /Radeon X700/ only standard-ubuntu drivers, will remove
mythphone and report back tomorrow

Okay. This will seem a bit odd, but do you have an nvidia card you could
experiment with? I want to file an upstream bug about this, because the one
other person that this happened to (that I know about) that didn't have it
resolved by removing mythphone had an ATI card and had tried both the
