Firefox *is* just the next regular security update for 4.0 users. What do you suggest instead, shall we just not provide the security update? ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is

I suggest doing the Debian way and backport security fixes. That gives both stability and security. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800637 Title: Firefox 5 shouldn't be a security

No way, thanks. Firstly, it's a significant amount of work, especially with the new release model. I've got no idea how this is going to work in Debian really. In addition to that, stability definitely is *not* guaranteed when security fixes (sometimes very large patches) are being backported and

I don't see a problem with releasing the latest Firefox as a separate package so that I can choose to have the latest. What I like to have is a web-browser that my plugins work today the same way they worked yesterday, that's the reason for to run the supplied version in the first place. -- You

That doesn't really solve any problems. With your suggestion, not only are you expecting us to backport potentially significant amounts of code every 6 weeks for 3 years (which will get progressively more difficult, more time consuming and more fragile as the upstream code base evolves), but you

The specific plugin I had problem with was firebug, but that's besides the point. The job you are describing is the exact same job that I expect a distribution to do, and that have been done so far by the Ubuntu team. I can't really see why this should be a problem now. -- You received this

Because, Mozilla used to support multiple stable branches of Firefox, each for nearly the entire life of an Ubuntu release. This meant that it wasn't much of an issue before as we would only need to backport security fixes for a few months of a particular Ubuntu release. That is not the case any

Note that firebug should be working btw. Have you managed to upgrade it yet? If not, do you have the old firebug xpi available? Or do you remember the exact version of firebug you had previously? I'd like to take a look at it to see if I can figure out why the addon manager didn't get you the
