anything special maybe the system (ubuntu) updated some other packages

[Bug 95332] Re: NetworkManager recognizes wireless ipw3945 but does not manage it

2007-04-13 Thread Roi
Bryan,

Running gnome-keyring-manager and displaying the list of available keyrings
shows two: default (bolded font) and session.
Both of them appear to contain nothing and I have no idea how to manually add
anything to them (if that's possible at all).
I am not sure if it has any relation to the NetworkManager problem we're
discussing here, but if you can guide me on how to create the necessary values
for the NetworkManager daemon to recognize the wireless network, we can maybe
determine if the keyring is the source of this problem.

[Bug 95332] Re: NetworkManager recognizes wireless ipw3945 but does not manage it

2007-04-05 Thread Brian Murray
NetworkManager stores network information in the gnome-keyring. There
is a package called gnome-keyring-manager that includes the application
gnome-keyring-manager that will allow you to view and edit keys. Your
keyring is stored in ~/.gnome2/keyrings/ . Please let me know if this
helps or you need further assistance. Thanks!

It appears that you do not have the linux-restricted-modules installed.
You need that package installed as there is a daemon in it that manages
the ipw3945. Thanks.

[Bug 95332] Re: NetworkManager recognizes wireless ipw3945 but does not manage it

2007-04-02 Thread Roi
If you are referring to the ipw3945d Regulatory daemon, then I have it
and it's running - without it I can't have wireless.

Like I said, I am running a compiled version of the kernel more suited
to my system, and not the one that comes with Ubuntu, but I have
wireless access and it works fine.

Also, when I did the test of switching back to the kernel that comes
with Ubuntu, the wireless worked, but NetworkManager still showed the
same error.

Maybe the problem is in the applet and not the NetworkManager daemon?
the error message said it can't get the list of stored networks (I don't
remember ever having been asked to store anything). where does that list
come from? how can I maybe create it manually so it can be passed on to
the daemon or the applet?
