Hi, the all-in-one device HP Deskjet F4580 is supported through HPLIP, so it does work with simple-scan. I did read through your how-to for reporting bugs: ran a test session with xsane - no problems. However, after trying to reproduce the crash with simple-scan it worked perfectly and did not

OK, thanks for your feedback! In sixty days a bot will set the bug to invalid if there is no further activity. If I had to guess, I would say there is a problem with the hplip scanner driver that sometime causes simple-scan to crash. Unfortunately problems with the scanner driver can easily take
