I use Kubuntu 12.04.1LTS, this implies Ubuntu12.04.1. xserver-xorg-input-synaptics version is 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise1. I confirm the bug. The trigger is hibernation/sleep for me. problem is reproducible. Bug freezes pointer. scroll, left right button works. Only pointer doesn't move. If I connect an external mouse, it is functional. I tried moving pointer to all corners and tried to use synaptic touch pad, but result is same. It freezes mouse pointer. hereś what i do to SCROLL when this bug kicks in. Hold Left mouse button inside the window area (anywhere inside the window u are looking to scroll) and then use the scoll. It works :). Only drawback is, u have to keep holding the Left Mouse (or touchpad) button to scroll. I have one of those new touchpad that recognize gestures. There must be a shortcut or something to disable scroll and enable scroll as when i keep messing with the Touchpad by multi fingure tapping and few other guestures, i sometimes get the scroll to work as normal. But bug kicks in soon after. I can reproduce this in Ubuntu Software Center 100% of the time. I'm in the same boat as palimmo. I've been using the /bin directory as my standard test, and 0ubuntu5.1 hasn't frozen yet (after about ten minutes testing), though the bar does seem to stick sometimes when I flick my fingers and let the scrolling coast. This might be a CPU issue (I'm on integrated graphics, so no appreciable acceleration), but I don't remember it doing that in 0ubuntu5--maybe this is a side-effect of the fix? I commented on a bug that was a duplicate to this one, so I'll carry my findings over here. I've tested versions 0ubuntu3 and 0ubuntu4 and neither has the problem. It seems to have been introduced in 0ubuntu5 (the current version), and it seems to be related to some changes to coasting speed.
