also have a laptop with an i3, and it does not exihit this behavior.
I need this working on my Netbook, or I need to take it back to Windows
to make it work. I will not run Unity, I only run Gnome Shell. A

I got the same problem on an Ubuntu 12.04 64bit installation. Running
the fresh installation of libreoffice I was not able to see any menu
entry (neither settings nor menus), after purge and reinstall the LO
installation, I'm able to see some entries but the UI is still unusable.

I have marked this bug report as Invalid because it does not contain
sufficient information. To get the information we need, please open a
terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T will do that) and type in the command
ubuntu-bug libreoffice
That will collect all the information that we need and guide you
