This just happened to me. I used sudo stop lightdm and sudo start
lightdm so I could log back in to Unity without restarting my machine
(of course that restarted unity). Killing the gnome-screensaver process
didn't work (sometimes that has worked for me in the past).

I'm not sure if my issue is directly related, but I'm experiencing a
severe lagging between actions (clicking, activating Chrome tabs,
switching between work-spaces etc) after an overnight screen lock. I'm

Andrei, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any

I've done a lot of quick suspends/resumes locks/unlocks to speed up
the process. I've encountered the freeze only 1 time after lock/unlock,
NOT suspend/resume. Can't be sure if it would also happen then, but for
now I can confirm the freezing also occurs in 3.4 Quantal. I'll switch
to Quantal
Ok so with the last daily kernel (3.2.0-25) I finally had a freeze yesterday;
haven't had one in a week or so.
Yesterday I also changed to upstream kernel, so we'll have to wait and see now.
By the way, shouldn't testing be done with the upstream kernel for
_this_ version of Ubuntu (12.04,
Andrei,
Joseph most likely recommended the Quantal build because that's the future
release. Fore example fixing a Hardy or Jaunty bug right now wouldn't help.
That said, once the bug is fixed in Quantal one of two thing will happen:
A. They will also fix it in Precise
B. People will eventually
