*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 930031 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930031 Hello, I am a recent Windows convert (i suspect there will soon be many with the recent release of Win8) - and i find this to be a definite design issue, not one persons opinion. In Windows 7 i run a vertical taskbar similar to Unity, on a modest/small 14 monitor at a comfortably visible 1366 x 768 res.. and can fit the following items running vertically: 17 ungrouped tabs for open programs/documents 10 quicklaunch icons on two lines 1 large Windows start button one line showing 4 main background apps + extension for remainder one line for time one line for day one line for date Ubuntu 12.04 struggles to fit even 1/3 of this functionality to be displayed at one time (without unnecessary scrolling). Such a simple solution, please allow the icon size to be reduced below 32x32! Definitely, minimum icon size 32x32 in Unity 3D is too large for many screens, it seems tuned for visually impaired people. Nothing against half-blind people, of course. However I can still see well, fortunately, even if I am quite old now. How can one dismiss the problem by saying that this is just an opinion? The right answer would be: I'll just try to patch it. Or: This is an intrinsic limitation, there's nothing we can do for now. At least, it would have been an honest answer. I have to agree. Not everyone in the world has the funds to replace their 4x3 aspect ratio monitors with a new widescreen flat panel. On my old but still beefy AMD Athlon64x2 (dual core @ 2.6GHz), the launcher takes a lot of effort to come out of hiding.
