Unplug all printers.And just plugin your Dymo and see if it's available
in gnome-cups-manager ? I suggest this manipulation to remove a conflict

All of a sudden I am seeing this problem now. It wasn't there yesterday
and I haven't changed my configuration since then. The last update,
according to /var/log/dpkg.log, was mozilla-thunderbird three days ago.

I installed Ubuntu 7.10 Tribe 4 and downloaded all the latest updates as
of yesterday, 27 August, so the gnome-session version is
2.19.90-0ubuntu2. I was about to shut down my PC, but before I did so I
opened System - Preferences - Sessions
Confirmed on feisty with file-roller 2.18.1-0ubuntu1.
According to an strace, file-roller opens the files
/usr/share/mime/{globs,magic,aliases,subclasses,mime.cache}, so
presumably it checks the mime type, but still refuses to open the 'mis-
named' archive, even though file(1) recognizes it as
