This is happening to me too with Hardy. Very annoying thing, when using
network-admin to configure an interface (wireless), two instances of
SystemToolsBackend.pl get executed and one of them seems to enter a busy
loop for about one minute, and configuration settings don't seem to

just want the open source solution to be just as good if not better

A few weeks after reporting the problem the restricted drivers appeared and I
was able to install them on the computer. I then installed the nvidia settings
tool. Having done that I had to plug in my CRT to get a full list of
resolutions and set 1024x768 as my default before switching

PPPoE connections weren't possible with a GUI in Hardy afaik. Except of the
error messages most of the mentioned problems should be fixed in Intrepid
through the new NetworkManager but simple GUI configuration of modem
connections seem to need an extra package now.

I re-linked this bug with Nautilus because this problem (also) shows up
in Nautilus.
When Nautilus uses another package to copy files, then maybe the problem
is caused by that other package, but as I'm just a simple Ubuntu desktop
user who is trying very hard to stop using XP, I have no idea what
If it's happening in GNOME commander it means that it's happening in
something below both file managers (which traverses from GLib down to
the kernel). Where the bug exists below is a good question, but it's not
one we can answer without a lot more information about how this change

I am also using the Watch my library for new files. Each time I load
Rhythmbox I receive 148 import errors relating to Windows system files
(Thumbs.db etc).

I added code to update-manager that will remove lilo if both lilo and
grub are installed and no lilo.conf is found. I assume this is
sufficient or can you think of additional safety checks?
