- happens only with qemu

Yes, this issue is mixed, people talking about those two problem.
The original poster states one of the problem, though: "While copying
many and large files to and from a USB drive, the system becomes
incredibly slow and sometimes hangs.", which is illustrated by Mauro

Same for me with Microsoft Sculpt Comfort mouse on different machines
with Ubuntu 16.04/10. Mouse keeps disconnecting every few minutes and
then after about 20 seconds reconnects again. No visible issue in logs,

Had the same when I installed the invidia driver, but then reverted to
xorg one when it wouldn't allow screen rotate.
Suspend unsuspend sorted it for me.

Please run "sudo apt-get update" and then report the output of "apt-
cache policy cups". I don't know why your apt is seeing
2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2, so I'd like to know what does see.

Thanks for triaging. I think you are right, restarts loose the
forwarders as well. At least most the time, I think I saw one instance
where it didn't happen but maybe the DHCP lease happened to be renewed
at the same time or I just imagined it.
