I upgraded my Dell 5520 laptop from Zesty to Artful over a month ago
now, and I'm seeing behavior pretty much exactly as described by Max,
starting immediately after the upgrade. I've been stuck either plugging
into my wired ethernet adapter, tethering with my phone, or just living
without
not experienced modemmanager-qt while backporting qmi over mbim for xenial

btw, I also tried just adding zesty ppa in xenial to install

You need to have an actual seed repository which is used to generate the
list of dependencies in your metapackage when you run ./update from your
metapackge
You don't need to be an official flavor to have that repository. For

This is a big problem for the community because NVCC from NVidia for
Cuda 8 only works with Gcc-5. Probably why there is so much traffic on
this issue right now. Nothing works with Cuda on GCC-5 with 17.10,
which affects a ton of users.

I remove my objections to the boot routine. It was a hardware problem.
This morning things were so bad that I decided to switch monitors.
I unplugged the VGA connectors from both monitors, and swapped them.
The "new" configuration was much better, with no turning off of the monitor.
