Interestingly it appears there is no kernel driver loaded for the Nvidia
card. So either something has forced it into safe graphics mode (doesn't
look like it) or the Nvidia driver is not working.

I have the same issue on a laptop with Optimus and on a desktop with dedicated
Nvidia GPU.
My apt log looks the same (attached).
I switched back to 5.8.0-44.
