Ver similar/identical issue with my Acer Desktop System running Ubuntu 14.04
AMD64 dual screen with Nvidia driver ver 331.113.
Upgraded the kernel to 3.13.0-45 today (6 Feb 2015) and GUI (Gnome Desktop)
freezes after logon. Also 2nd screen appears to be be dead.
No such problems on prior kernel
This problem also affects Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64.
I recently upgraded the kernel to 3.13.0-45.
Nvidia module is not built: there is no
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-331/331.113/3.13.0-45-generic.
No errors reported in the apt logs.
As a result the desktop screen is blank.

Here is a work-around which fixed the issue for me:
1. In the stable version (in my case Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64 kernel 3.13.0-44),
open Additional Drivers then select the X.Org X server Nouveau display driver.
2. Allow the setup to complete. Reboot system. Confirm driver is working.
3. Reboot into
I also have a HP 430 G3, on Ubuntu 15.10, kernel 4.2.0-23. Same issue (no
sound).
Above solution from Simone (14-12-2015) failed to work for me.
But the following does work and has the advantage of persisting.
1. Create a new modprobe.d file:
/etc/modprobe.d/intel.conf
2. Add these entries:
Hi to Simone.
I do not believe the alsa_setup.sh is required (I did not need to use it)

i have found a possible fix or workaround to the problem!
i installed Ubuntu gnome 16.04 and to my surprise the ram usage was at
1.2gb idle and after just opening my browser and a youtube video it shot
up to about 2.3gb which was alarming to say the least, so not one to
give up i went in search
I'm not sure what your asking or saying? but i have attached a couple of
screen shots of my systems idle ram usage i understand Removing
evolution completely is messy, but disabling is relatively
straightforward.
Of course this should have been done using dpkg divert and whatever, to
not confuse

Updated details. I can confirm this issue is not isolated to one PC.
Same issue occurs on 2 other laptops, when they are connected by USB cable to
HP Envy 6200 series printer.

ippusbxd service in systemctl:
sudo systemctl mask ippusbxd@001:003.service *
sudo systemctl mask ippusbxd@.service
and remove crash logs in /var/crash
* check your bus/device nos via :
systemctl --failed

I created a Ubuntu 11.10 USB drive on Windows using the instructions on
the Ubuntu download page. Didn't format the key, but I don't think
that's in any way relevant. I did safely remove the key after I was
done.
Everything goes fine until the second half of the installation
I'd like to see blocking functionality too. I'm getting spammed with
add to list requests on YM, and can't find any way of blocking this.

Looks fixed with OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 on Mint 10 (and presumably Ubuntu
Maverick). I can save password-protected .doc and .xls files and open
them.
