One simple workaround is to add the following line to '/etc/rc.local':
echo disable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth
This does exactly the same as if you Fn+F5 until Bluethooth is off.

I encountered this issue on my laptop pc, and I noticed that it happens
expecially when the notebook is overheating and the fan starts running faster.
During the last test the pc stood idle for 1 hour and half without losing
connection, but after the fan had started running faster, the

I've got this problem too. After a few minutes the rt61 generates an error, and
the wifi card stops working.
Removing and inserting the rt61 module with rrmod and modprobe makes the wifi
card restart working,

the version with this problem is the 6.06 LTS (the original CD-Rom install),

I have this problem on an updated Intrepid machine, though full search
and apt work properly. To be more precise, when I start Synaptic and
before performing ANY quick search, the list of all packages does not
really contain all packages, and reloading doesn't fix it.

I had a look at Windows' control panel: it points out a conflict between
ATI SMBus and a certain high precision timer, which I suppose to be

Of course we have ambiguity here, as the \ character could be both a
directory separator or part of the filename. In all cases, the archive
should at least extract.

I still got this problem.. I'm not running on a laptop and I have a lot of disk
space. Ubuntu has been installed on a FAT filesystem through Windows (I know,
this is an awful solution, but I couldn't find another one for this PC).
I am running the 2.6.27-9 kernel, but the -7 version
This is probably the same issue I'm experiencing: same error message, same
workaround.
Booting without quiet also results in a clocksource unstable message.
I encountered it with a Sapphire PURE CrossfireX 770 equipped with an nvidia
8600.
the root cause could be this (taken from dmesg output):

Sorry for choosing the wrong package and thank you for your quick
response. By unrensponsive I mean that it does not respond to commands
at all, in particular:
1) No icons are displayed on it, even though the Desktop folder is not empty
and they all displayed correctly in Intrepid
2) Right
I realize that I haven't explained myself very well: when I wrote GNOME
Desktop I didn't mean the whole GNOME application but only the portion
of screen on which the wallpaper is drawn (BTW, the wallpaper is the
only thing that is displayed correctly on it).
