Ok. I compiled 2.6.24.6 with CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG and
CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG_FUNC_TRACE, although /sys/module/acpi/parameters
contains only acpica_version, debug_layer and debug_level. I did

This problem applies also to LG LW25 (and probably many other LG
laptops). Some of the hotkeys are normal keyboard keys but some
(including the wifi+bluetooth button) generate no keyboard or ACPI key
events (altough the ACPI interrupt counter seems to increase).

But the head parking is part of the normal drive operation. So why avoid
it?
It's actually beneficial as it unloads the head, thus protecting the
disk from shocks (and saving some power). Not a heavy operation like
starting/stopping the disk.

This issue is still present in Saucy. I have seen it happen with many
laptops, including the HP Compaq 6910p laptop on which I am typing this.
It spans across multiple Ubuntu releases. My deduction is that the
brightness events are processed by two different recipients which
creates the problem.
Actually I say above that the problem is *resolved* in the recent
kernels, by which I meant that there is no bug anymore. :)

Even if it isn't seen as an advertisement, it's a bit questionable and
unprofessional to put cool facts about a TV show in a space reserved for
technical announcements.

On a stock installation, the headphone volume is stuck low and cannot be
adjusted.
It turns out that PulseAudio mutes the output "Speaker+LO" when
headphones are inserted, which is against what we want.
The problem can be fixed by modifying the section "Element Speaker+LO"
