This is happening with me as well. All I need to do is right-click on a
file in Nautilus and select Rename, and then my laptop's fan sspins up
and after 30 seconds or so Nautilus terminates. (Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome
Shell 3.4). I see this in dmesg:
[ 548.169680] Out of memory: Kill process 2897
Update: turns out my problem was caused by a theme I had installed
(Delorean-dark). Seems that this shouldn't cause Nautilus to crash,
but changing to a different theme fixed my problem.
