Still happens using caja 1.24.0-1 on Ubuntu 20.04.1.
Caja was apparently trying to generate a thumbnail for an odt (LibreOffice text
document) file on the Desktop: when I disabled the thumbnail generation for
text files, the high CPU usage stopped.
Is there any procedure to obtain a log from caj
It seems that one of the following two steps solved the issue, at least
when using kernel 4.4.0:
* upgrading the disks (model ST9900805SS) firmware to version CS0C
(hosts equipped with different models of disks didn't seem to be
affected by this problem);
* adding "mpt3sas.msix_disable=1" to kern

An older NVIDIA card had no problem but hadn't had the NVIDIA drivers
installed. The new card is a 1060.

I encountered this through installation of kcalc. Apt-get hadn't
completed that installation before I (unthinkingly) started the update.
The update reported that it was waiting for apt-get to finish but it is
quite possible that this path may have confused the installation.
