I am in the same position, but quite frankly I am giving up on this. I'm
just somewhat annoyed that Canonical decided to kill off the open-vm-
tools package that I know to be working just fine, at least with VMware
ESX 3.0.x.
fadyek: The fix I posted does have ESX-esque naming conventions for the
Fadyek, I'm glad you got a solution. Your experience brings me to
another point: is VMware going to release a proper VMware Tools package
for Hardy or not? Debian users at least get the option of using open-vm-
tools, which Ubuntu has removed from its package repositories (I am
assuming this is in
Fadyek, please check my previous post on this bug, it contains an
attachment which has the tarballs you seek, with the exception of
vmppuser.tar. Hope this helps! :) Also try replacing the tarballs from
my package to the one you're trying to compile, unless you're sure it's
vmppuser.tar specificall

I got the latest Apple Bootcamp Windows driver to work with ndiswrapper
on Gutsy, although very slowly (seems to saturate the bus or something,
even video slows down). SVN releases of madwifi drivers didn't work for
me at all, in particular probably because my wireless network is ad-hoc.

Looks like they're still working on the ath5k driver, however, since
it's been included in the master kernel git tree it means that it's
passed whatever standards drivers typically need to be included in the
kernel. And that's a good thing. :)
Theoretically it should be possible to test drive the
Confirmed. Please upgrade the nvidia-glx-new package to 100.14.19 before
Gutsy is released.

Since this isn't going to be fixed in Gutsy, then this bug should be
marked as Invalid. The new Hardy server images aren't stable under ESX,
probably because they are XEN-aware? Anyway, the problem with regular
vanilla hardy server ISOs appears to be much more severe than just slow
kernel initializ
I'm speculating here, but I think cloop (given its age) won't be
included in Hardy, since it won't compile on kernels > 2.6.23.
Therefore, if this bug isn't fixed in Feisty, I don't think there's any
point in keeping it open.

1. Which release of Ubuntu are you using?
2. What version of OpenOffice.org (2.0.1? 2.0.2? etc) are you experiencing this
problem with?

Seems like a messed up Gnome configuration to me that's causing it to
hang. Can the users log in to a failsafe session? If so, tr y removing
(or backing up just in case) any .gnome* or .gconf* directories in the
home directories of the users that are having these issues, then restart
X (Ctrl+Alt+Ba
Can you hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 then F3, etc until you see the console? You
should be able to see what the installer tried to do last. You should
even be able to pull up a shell prompt.

Dodi, thanks for pointing out the GNOME bugzilla information. I
therefore assigned this issue to the Ubuntu GNOME team. See my previous
comment for specific information as well as a proposed fix.
There's a possibility that this is a Debian issue (since most of the
