I had a similar problem (no mic after upgrade to Lucid). I tried to
change various alsamixer settings but finally realised that I actually
just had to use System-Preferences-Sound instead of alsamixer.

Affects me too. But who cares? Everybody just cares about the impossible
task of making the interface common between small smartphone screens and
large monitors. I will use 10.04 as long as it lasts and then I will
switch to some other distribution of Linux.

When I work with images (generate, copy, move) and use nautilus gvfs-
metadata often hangs Nautilus, so that it is not displaying any files in
a window. Nautilus becomes fine when I kill gvfs-metadata. In my mind
this is one of the most unfortunate recent features of Ubuntu.

The currently existing fix results in rather ugly tabs: they are grey,
while the default theme is dark. In xenial it looks somewhat better, but
the spacing between the last tab and the "+" icon, does not look nice.
