No display was seen after install of ubuntu using wubi and running
ubuntu within Windows.
This PC will run the same live CD ok but needs the Safe Graphics mode
otherwise no display is seen. When ubuntu is run after wubi install it
seems that the graphics card cannot talk to
I have just looked at the PC in question. It is a dual boot pc, with xp
and (linux) with grub.
At booting, grub runs, I choose XP, then a choice of windows or ubuntu
is seen, a timer for ESC, use of escape key now seems to give the
original grub menu which has no safe graphics option.

This seems quite serious because the web content is incomplete, yet my
U1 folder seems to either be ignored so nothing changes, or the conflict
file names simply re appear. So I am stuck, until I get to know what can

U1 applet reports to be updating 449 of 448 files which is an
apparrently invalid statement. Also a considerable number of files are
not yet shown in the web site evn after many hours, days. looks like u1
stops checking sync or something.

dash does not open with correct focus
1) If I hit super, (only) and hold it, then within a very short time
(guess 200 milliseconds, or quarter of a second), the launcher icons
are shown with black numerals on them.
2) If I hit and hold super and tap 'a' within the above quarter
second, nothing changes on the display, no applications

A few recent updates installed, then I tried cheese webcam app which I
know does not work (I had raised a bug) just to check it still was not
working, then I closed the inactive cheese app and then I opened
camorama webcam app, which
With hindsight it seems to me that the bug here on this machine is that the
dash lenses do not show up.
The machine only runs 2D, however it is a reasonable speed, there is no problem
using Ubuntu.
(I have a second testing machine with 3D now so I can see what a dash 'lens' is
supposed to do)
An aside comment for information:
I have now set up a second machine with Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 updated, and on the
second machine, the dash focus does work correctly, which means that I can now
be very sure that on the problem machine in the bug here, it does have the bug,

As mentioned above, I have also installed on a second test machine, and the
dash focus works ok on that PC.
So I tried another thing: I tried the second machine as ubuntu 2d session. In
the 2d session I get the same behaviour as in my 'problem machine - that is

yes it works as v4L2 with autodetect
and I believe the audio microphone works too after selecting suitable in the

Thanks however, at the time of the, problem since firefox would not even start
up, I could not see a way of using the normal methods of reporting. No process
id for example. and such as
ubuntu-bug firefox
simply crashed out immediately still again offering only the firefox crash
report.
I installed ubuntu 12.04 alpha 1 and then did all updates - although the
process was labelled as a partial upgrade. all updates installed.
Not long following this I routinely started update manager, and it gave
this problem. As things stand, I cannot update the rolling alpha 1 via
the update
I hav enow used terminal to
sudo apt-get update
and then sudo apt-get upgrade.
This found 5 updates which were installed ok.
I immediately then tried update manager and it then worked normally with no
problem.
