I have your same problem. I'm using as a workaround the following commands:
killall -9 pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload
with these commands, my external and internal microphones start working again
(well, they usually die again after 10 minutes.. but it's still something).

After upgrade from ubuntu 14.04.2 to 16.04 on Acer Aspire s7 191 , power
shutdown does not work anymore by clicking on "shutdown" option on menu. The
system perform the shutdown process but fails to perform power shutdown .
shutdown -h now doesn't work either . systemctl
solved - some processes loaded from /etc/rc.local were not killed by the
shutdown process .
