Just found a fix for this ...
In System Settings->Mouse & Touchpad, the Touchpad slider was set to
off.
Moving the Touchpad slider to on fixed the problem.
So this is NOT a linux kernel problem, but I think this must have been
some sort of upgrade problem - maybe that slider is new and defaults
The hardware works fine under Windows 10 (bleurgh).
I had a look through /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found these lines
[ 9.901] (II) config/udev: Adding input device ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad
(/dev/input/event6)
[ 9.901] (**) ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: Applying InputClass "evdev touchpad
The hardware works fine under Windows 10 (bleurgh).
