[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-23 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Nice work Vladimir!

Based on this, I will have removed Today scope from this bug and made
other top-level bug modifications.

Please, try installing the "Desktop Apps" scope as describe here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/libertine-scope/+bug/1617545/comments/9

Please let me know the result here.

Cheers

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-23 Thread Vladimir
Kyle, I think I can to localize source of problem: It's "Desktop App
Scope"!!

So, what I did.

1. Today I tested many scopes: run them directly or set them as favorite
-- everything is OK, even after rebooting. Even "Today Scope"!

2. But if I run "Desktop App Scope" then unity8-dash begins hanging.

3. If I set "Desktop App Scope" as favorite, then after rebooting
problem (described by me as bug) is beginning with any first favorite
scope!!!

4. So, about "Desktop App Scope". Just before arriving OTA-13 I put in
my system update, which renamed Libertine scope into "Desktop App Scope"
and made this scope empty!

Perhaps, it's bug #1617545, described in there:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/libertine-scope/+bug/1617545

But I decided to wait OTA-13 and did not use solution of this comments:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/libertine-scope/+bug/1617545/comments/9

5. After OTA-13 installed, I've got the bug, described in the top of
this theme.

What do you think? What should I do with "Desktop App Scope"?

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Vladimir: Great!

I meant to write "Apps" not "Desktop Apps" :( That is: you get to Manage
page from Apps (not from Desktop Apps). Sorry about that typo.

Anyway, it does *seem* that the problem is not caused by Today scope.

Let's continue and check if favoriting other scopes causes the same
unity8-dash cpu high usage.

So:
- reset favorites as shown above.
- restart unity8-dash
- favorite some other scope. maybe bbc
- check unity8-dash cpu utilization

Regarding the blue progress bar wiggling at the bottom which you say
never stops, it may be that unity8 (or some part of it) has indeed
died/frozen but the qml animiation just carries on forever...

I repeated your instructions and see again "Applications Scope" and no problem.
After rebooting -- no problem. Hence, this scope doesn't cause problem?

2016-09-22 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Ah, now I understand: Today scope is the first scope displayed and you
are stuck there.

you can reset scope favorites like this:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Dash
favorite-scopes "['scope://clickscope']"
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ restart unity8-dash

then today scope should not be a fav and you can take additional steps

2016-09-22 Thread Vladimir
Kyle, I said earlier I absolutely could not swipe to Desktop Apps (btw
just before OTA-13 this scope became empty) or swipe to any FAVORITE
scope. So, can't establish now new favorite scopes. And any widget on
Today Scope is not clickable.

But I can move Today Scope left and see list of windows of other running
apps (terminal, browser, System Info, etc..)

And I can swipe away from this list Browser or Terminal, but I can't
swipe away from this list Today Scope!!

So it seems I can't perform your tasks completely.

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Hi Vladimir:

I'd like to see if we can rule out the Today scope as the cause of
unity8-dash high CPU utilization.

So:

Swipe up from the bottom of the Desktop Apps scope to see the scopes
Manage page.

Ensure your day scope is NOT a favorite.

HOW: favorited scopes are listed in a special section at the top. (Only
favorited scopes are available for swiping through.) If the scope is NOT
a favorite then the scope's star icon on the right on the Manage page is
not solid black (it is a star made of lines). If it is a favorite then
the star icon is solid black.

After doing this, the Today scope is not a favorite AND it is not
currently loaded & running.

Now, check the the unity8-dash cpu utilization.
-> is it low or still ridiculously high?

Restart unity8-dash (and don't launch today scope from the Manage page).

Again, check the the unity8-dash cpu utilization.
-> is it low or still ridiculously high?

If in both cases the unity8-dash CPU utlization is very high, then I
think we can definitively rule out the today scope as the cause.

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Vladimir: regarding your comment #36. If the blue progress bar is going
back and forth at the bottom of the today scope, it means it has not
completed. if this continues for about 40 seconds, it should then stop
automatically (all scopes do - they time out). If this happens, please
grab scope-registry.log file mentioned above immediately and attached it
here - it may be some kind of uncaught exception.

Thanks a lot for your patience with all of this!

Cheers - Kyle

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Vladimir
So, I see unity8-dash have very high cpu usage always.
But what do you mean "Today scope is not favorited and not launched" -- how can
I kill "Today scope process"?

Vladimir does unity8-dash have very high cpu usage even when Today scope
is not favorited and not launched?

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Vladimir
Michal, I've done commands, you wrote. And after them uninit8-dahs eats
98.8% CPU again, and Today Scope doesn't work properly, too. Dir
/var/crash is empty (no .crash file in there).

[Bug 1626180] Re: Today Scope not clickable after OTA-13

2016-09-22 Thread Michał Sawicz
@Vladimir, can you please, in a terminal:

$ stop unity8-dash
$ sudo rm -f /var/crash/*
$ rm -Rf ~/.cache/QML
$ start unity8-dash

See if there's a .crash file in /var/crash after a few minutes. The high
CPU load of unity8-dash suggests it either crashes or fell in a loop of
some kind.

The exception Kyle mentioned seems to be unity8 dying, doubt it's
related to this bug as everything works with the exception of the dash
and Today scope.

Kyle, I could make (via dd) image of system partition and send it to
you, if it will be useful to reproduce a problem.

2016-09-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The exception in comment #23 is from Mir. However I don't know if it's
really a bug or just excessive logging that coincides with an external
failure like a client dying.
