That's for plaintext mail, I assume. Somehow that rings a bell. Maybe some font-scaling at play. I recommend to install the add-on ThunderHTMLedit and check in the HTML tab which is displayed even for a plaintext e-mail. I've found the problem. I have poor eyesight, and have my minimum font size is set to 15 points. However, the font for monospace for the latin character set was set to "Default (DejaVu Sans Mono)" 12 point. Upon changing this to 15 point to match my minimum font size, the text wraps at 72 characters as it should. It seems that the font scaling doesn't correctly handle differences between the chosen font and minimum font size. After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.10, Thunderbird seems to use the wrong wrap
length when composing emails. I have mail.wrap_long_lines set to true,
and mailnews.wraplength set to 72, but when composing emails, lines are
wrapped at a shorter length. It appears to be about 55 characters.
